Texas Cooking is here to bring you a taste of the south. I see a lot of popular shows today that uniquely stick to southern food. What I have realized from this is everyone loves the deep fried, slow cooked, unhealthy goodness that we call soul food. Through the years of living in Texas I have been fortunate to be able to stay in many different cities from the the large like Houston to the small like Sabine and everywhere between. In all those different cities there were very many distinct taste and preferred flavors. I can't say I found them all attractive but they all had a great spirit and tradition. I hope you can see the dedication to taste I found in Texas in trying some of these recipes. Enjoy Texas Cooking,

There are many of staples of Texas cuisine one that you will always find is Southern Style Butter Beans. I don't see them outside of the south very often hence the name I suppose. This is a recipe that I received from a 6th generation Texan. Im sure you'll love it. |

This is an easy to make recipe that can become very addictive I suggest buying a lot of okra when you do, you will make this often. Once you try making Fried Okra from scratch the frozen fried okra that you can buy from the store will not ever taste as good to you. If you have trouble getting the corn meal to stick to the okra, you can put the fresh cut okra into a mixture of egg white and water. One egg white and 1/8th cup of water., then roll into the corn meal and fry in the hot oil.. Enjoy this served with the Southern style butter beans.. Now this is South Texas Cooking. |

A different twist on the original is one thing that Texas is famous for. I find that twist in this recipe for Taco Casserole, it has all the familiar flavors and textures of your common Taco. The main difference between the two is that it is different. After a while we all get overwhelmed by the same dishes over and over again. Like when you were in grade school and every Wednesday was hamburger day. So Taco Casserole mixes it up a bit. I learned this recipe many years ago when I was a kid and all the soccer mom's in effort of feeding the masses would make tray's of this casserole. IT was good then and it's good today. I know if you try it you will like it too.
